CANON PATRICK BRIGHT (1936-1997)
'an accomplished painter of water colours'
Canon Patrick Bright came from the Church of St John the Baptist at Royston to be Rector of Ashwell in 1990. He trained for the priesthood at Chichester and after a curacy in Bracknell, he spent the rest of his life in North Hertfordshire. Patrick was an accomplished painter of watercolours and during his time in Ashwell frequently used his talents to raise funds for St Mary's Church.
In an appreciation Pam Blackburn (the editor) wrote in the journal 'The Village News', ' he had an extraordinary command of a clear cut line . . . (and that) .. his skill in depicting architectural detail precisely was enviable .. no wonder, with such an attractive style, his paintings appealed to so many'
