St Mary's Ashwell

Sunday teas

A small band of enthusiastic servers and bakers provide delicious afternoon teas in the Parish Church Room every Sunday between 2:30pm-5:00pm from April until September.

The event is very popular with many local residents, more so than ever this year having re-commenced in July when lockdown restrictions eased.  It has been lovely to see old friends getting together again for a chat over a cup of tea and a slice of home-baked cake or a scone.  Ashwell is en-route for many cycling clubs, whose members are always welcome.

The money raised from Sunday afternoon teas makes a substantial contribution to the restoration fund for St.Mary's Church. In 2019, over £1,400 was raised!  It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people, often people who live close by to us but we have never had the opportunity to meet.

The tradition of 'Sunday afternoon teas in Ashwell' is only made possible by the willing team of volunteers; a rota is located at the back of St Mary’s church, so please add your name and contact details if you are able to help, either by baking a cake or scones, or by serving tea and cakes and washing up on the day.  It’s also an ideal volunteering opportunity for young people, especially those undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
