St Mary's Ashwell

Youth events

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127

We celebrate this gift by welcoming children to our youth activities both in church and in the wider community.

Discoverers

Our Discoverers group (Sunday School) runs for approximately half an hour during the morning communion service.  We meet in a separate room and find creative ways to explore what it means to be a Christian, often linking our activities to seasonal themes and bible readings. Children aged 3-11 are warmly welcomed.

Fridays @ 5 Youth Group

Our Fridays@5 youth group is free to attend for boys and girls in school year 4 and above.  We meet from 5.00 to 6.30 on Friday afternoons during term time in St Mary’s church. Our youth groups sessions are usually lively events with a choice of activities in the wonderful space that St Mary's church is able to offer to the community. Food plays an important role too, whether it be a quick popcorn snack, or a more elaborate cooking activity such as making brownies, decorating biscuits or adding toppings to pitta bread pizza.

Outdoor activities such as parachute games or playing tag have been popular too. After a busy week at school, the children are often ready to let off some steam on a Friday evening.

Thank God It's Sunday

People of all ages are welcome to participate in this informal short service on the first Sunday of the month. Children and young families are particularly encouraged to join in.

Special Services for Ashwell School

In conjunction with Ashwell Primary School we host their Harvest Festival in September and their Christingle service in December. As these services are very popular, we recommend that parents and grandparents arrive early to get a seat.

Easter Egg Hunt

This annual event takes place in the churchyard, usually on Easter Saturday.

Outings

From time to time, outings are arranged for our young people. Last year we took a trip to Arbury banks with the Greening Ashwell team who kindly arranged a nature treasure hunt with fun things to find and learn about along the way.

All our youth activities are supervised by responsible adults with appropriate safeguarding measures in place.

Our activities are open to all, whether they are regular church-goers or not.

If you would like more information about any of these activities, or would like to volunteer to help at ‘Fridays @ 5’ , please contact Rev’d Chris or Jo Adams on 01763 241587 or email adams561j@gmail.com
